Dr. Andrew C. Mills, DVM, MPH

Dr. Mills grew up in northern England; his family moved to Mobile, Alabama when he was 10 years old. He graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama in 1967. After graduation he practiced at a small animal hospital in Mobile, Alabama. He also worked at a mixed animal practice, (cattle, horses and small animals) in Montana where he met his wife Carol. Carol helps in the practice as needed. He served in both the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army Veterinary Corps. He received a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Minnesota, majoring in Veterinary Public Health, and Veterinary Dermatology. He started a four-year residency in Veterinary Dermatology at the University of Minnesota in 1990, completed in 1994, and has been a full-time Veterinary Dermatologist since that time, practicing at the Affiliated Emergency Veterinary Service clinic in Coon Rapids, MN.

Among Dr. Mills’ professional interests are allergic skin conditions, immunotherapy and zoonotic parasitic skin conditions (diseases transmitted between animals and man).

Dr. Mills is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), and the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology (AAVD).

Dr. Mills enjoys skeet shooting, skiing, vegetable gardening, walking and bicycle riding. He and Carol are the parents of three children: Ryan, of Grand Prairie, TX who helped start the practice and was an assistant all through high school and college; Peter of San Diego, CA; and Jennifer of New York City, NY.

Laura Soderquist, C.V.T.
Laura is our Office Manager/Head Technician. She has a great love for animals and became a Certified Veterinary Technician in 1990. She spent 10 years in a Small Animal practice before joining Veterinary Dermatology And Allergy Centre in 1999. She has a dog, “Lucky” with allergies, and enjoys working with our clients to educate them in the care of their allergic pets.

Terry Headley, Dermatology Assistant
Terry has been the Dermatology Assistant at Veterinary Dermatology And Allergy Centre since 2004. She loves working with animals. Terry has been a volunteer at the University of Minnesota Raptor Center since 1990, caring for all types of birds of prey. She also is involved in rescuing them and other birds after injuries.

Leah Taylor, 2nd Year Veterinary Student (Saturday Staff)
Leah is a second year veterinary student at the University of Minnesota. She is originally from South Dakota and attended college at the University of Colorado. When not at work or school she enjoys movies, traveling, and spending time with her two Burmese cats, Simon and Reese. Her veterinary interests include small animal exotic medicine, animal behavior, and of course dermatology. You will see her at Veterinary Dermatology And Allergy Centre on Saturday mornings.

Andrea Peterson, 4th Year Veterinary Student (Saturday Staff)
Andrea is from Darwin, Minnesota, and a senior veterinary student at the University of Minnesota. She will receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in June 2008. She has assisted at Veterinary Dermatology And Allergy Centre on Saturdays mornings for the last 1 ½ years. This has encouraged her to pursue a residency in comparative dermatology. She will be a small animal intern for one year at both VCA Aurora and Barwyn Animal Hospitals near Chicago, IL.
